Unfortunately I’m not talking about the well known beach beer. Did you know that Corona purchases have decreased since this whole thing started? Humanity… *eyeroll*
My college decided that they were going to move to online only lectures. Currently, some labs will still be done in person. Everything is up in the air, so I’ve gotten into my head that I am going to have to mostly teach General Chemistry online. Seems like a crazy task, but I’m actually excited. There’s some things I’ve wanted to try out and I’ll be doing my best to document.
So real quick, someone in my cohort at Pepperdine sent me this picture, so I thought I’d share it (sorry for the potato quality, I looked for a clearer version, but its’s not out there):

So what we’re going to see on this blog is a shift in gears. I’m going to document the process as I go along for two different reasons:
- This started as a project for my doctorate. I want to shift gears because I want to make it available to my co-workers who may not be as Canvas savvy.
- I’m hoping this information can reach a wider audience. As I said, originally it was for the grade, now its to help with this crazy time we are going through.
The shift in gears means that things won’t be as ‘out there’ anymore. In other words, it won’t have the deep specialization that comes with a lot of Canvas training. Instead, I’m going to be talking about ideas and experiences with taking a face to face course and rapidly turning it into an online lecture setup.
I’m hoping this helps those faculty out there that may not have a lot of Canvas experience. We shall see!
