In this quick video I show how you can use a test bank from a publisher and the Pearson program Testgen in order to make small Question Banks in Canvas.

Import Dat Quiz
So I’m running two sections of the same class. Its a lot easier for me to make stuff in one class, then import it all over. Someone asked me today how to do this, so I made a little vid on it:
Giving Feedback on Written Documents
So with the move to this unwanted hybrid…ness, I’ve been trying to figure out how to grade and give feedback on submitted work. Here’s how I’m going to do it (also, ignore the fuzziness when it happens, did that to get rid of a students name):
Variable Questions and Taking a Quiz Normally
This is going to be a short post. I made videos for two folks on how to do some stuff on Canvas and I thought it might be interesting to post them here. This first video is how to do variables in a test question so people get different questions when they go to takeContinue reading “Variable Questions and Taking a Quiz Normally”
I swear not to cheat, your Honor
With our friend COVID-19, my entire school has been forced to move our lecture materials online. Some of the instructors I’ve talked to want someway to get the students to sign something, an Honor Code, before they take an exam. The Honor Code would say that you will not cheat, it’s you who is takingContinue reading “I swear not to cheat, your Honor”
Yeeting Labs (or work) Into Canvas
So in the sciences, we are often required to show our work. Maybe for students it will involve partial credit, or maybe you just need a way for them to show their work so you can figure out if they are copying or not. So with the move to many classes online, how the hellContinue reading “Yeeting Labs (or work) Into Canvas”
Canvas and Corona
Unfortunately I’m not talking about the well known beach beer. Did you know that Corona purchases have decreased since this whole thing started? Humanity… *eyeroll* My college decided that they were going to move to online only lectures. Currently, some labs will still be done in person. Everything is up in the air, so I’veContinue reading “Canvas and Corona”
You Shall Not Pass *slams staff down*
Like… you want you students to pass their class, right? Maybe sometimes though you want to slow down how fast they are trying to run through materials. Perhaps you want to gateway a quiz or a reading section. I’m going to demonstrate an effective way to ensure that students complete a series of things inContinue reading “You Shall Not Pass *slams staff down*”
Embedding Google Sheet
In chemistry, we do a lot of labs that require some indepth calculations. Many times, students wait until the last minute, screw up the calculations and it becomes both a nightmare to grade and for the student. Last semester I had the bright idea that I’d make sheets that students must log into through CanvasContinue reading “Embedding Google Sheet”
Posting Youtube Vids
So there’s a couple of different ways to post Youtube videos with Canvas. I like to use Youtube for any video I make because it actually does the closed captioning for you, which helps keep everything in compliance with school policy. Granted, you have to go back and fix parts, but overall, it’s pretty great.Continue reading “Posting Youtube Vids”
